Why the Maldives?

The Maldives are 1,190 small islands spread across 26 atolls, and each resort is a private island of its own, with villas standing over clear turquoise lagoons. Tropical paradise made physical: fine white sand, water in seven shades of blue, snorkelling straight off your villa deck, private dinners on the beach at sunset. The #1 honeymoon destination.

When to visit

Dry season: November to April — the best and the priciest. Wet season: May to October — short showers, prices 30-40% lower, and still perfect for doing nothing. The water is warm all year (27-29°C).

What not to miss

  • Snorkelling with manta rays — Hanifaru Bay, June to November
  • Dinner on a private beach — a set menu by lantern light
  • An overwater spa — a massage with a view through the glass floor
  • The Whale Submarine — 35m below the surface
  • A dolphin cruise — hundreds of dolphins at sunset
  • A trip to Malé — a contrast to resort life

About the Maldives

How do I get to the resort?

An international flight to Malé (MLE), then a transfer: speedboat (30-90 min, included) or seaplane (15-45 min, +200-400 USD per person).

Do I have to book an overwater villa?

No — the beach villas are wonderful too. Overwater is the honeymoon choice; a beach villa is the better value.

Is alcohol available?

Yes at the resorts (it's a Muslim country, but resorts are licensed). Not in Malé or on the local islands.

Is the rainy season a no-go?

Not at all — the rain is short and heavy, then the sun returns. Prices are 30-40% lower and your chances of seeing manta rays go up.
