About Egypt
Do I need a visa for Egypt?
Yes, but you get it on arrival at the airport (25 USD cash). Or an e-visa online (50 USD).
Is Egypt safe?
Yes — the resorts (Hurghada, Sharm, Marsa Alam) are very safe. Central Cairo is crowded, so a guided tour is best.
Can I drink the tap water?
No — bottled water only. 4-5★ hotels provide it free.
Hurghada or Sharm?
Hurghada is on the mainland, easy to reach, cheaper. Sharm is on the Sinai peninsula, with better snorkelling (Ras Mohammed) and newer hotels.
How much should I tip?
Tipping (baksheesh) is part of the culture: 10-20% in restaurants, 1-2 USD for luggage, 5 USD a day for a cruise guide.
